Apple first launched its Self Service Repair program in April 2022. Under this program, the company sends parts, tools, and manuals to help users perform simple repair operations on their own. Apple’s self repair program helps users in accomplishing common repairs like battery replacement, iPhone screen replacement, and more using genuine Apple spare parts and tools provided by the company. While the program was initially available for iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, it has now been expanded to iPhone 14 series as well. Also, the program will help users self service and repair iPhone’s Try Depth Camera system, and top speaker for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups- something which was not available earlier. “Today Apple announced Self Service Repair will be available June 21 for the iPhone 14 lineup and additional Mac models, including the 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro powered by M2. Since April 2022, Self Service Repair has given anyone with experience repairing electronic devices access to the same manuals, genuine Apple parts, and tools used at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Service Providers,” writes Apple in the blog post announcing the expansion of the Self Service Repair program.

Post repair process made easier

Additionally, Apple is also bringing changes to the System Configuration process which is used for iPhone repairs, such as displays, batteries, and cameras. For the unaware, System Configuration is a post repair software tool that ensures that users have carried out repairs with genuine Apple parts and that the newly replaced parts are working properly. When you run the System Configuration process after a repair, Apple authenticates genuine parts, updates firmware if any, and calibrates components to ensure maximum performance and quality. Additionally, for self repairs involving biometric authentication, such as Touch ID or Face ID, System Configuration links the biometric sensors to the Secure Enclave on the logic board to keep intact device security and customer privacy. Previously, users needed to contact the Self Service Repair support team to initiate the System Configuration process. However, now Apple is making this process easier. As per the new announcement, users can now start System Configuration process by simply placing their devices into Diagnostics mode and following the on-screen instructions. Thus, saving the time spent in contacting the Apple support team.
