As the name implies, the pass allows users to use Beam scooters without having to pay an unlock fee every time. The company calls it “unlimited rides” but actually, you are limited to just 15 minutes of usage per day, though this should be enough for most people to get around as it’s meant for short commutes. Keep in mind that the pass can only be used in Kuala Lumpur, and a representative told us that the company has no plans in expanding this promotion to other cities at this time as Beam is most active in KL. Moreover, the monthly pass does not cover guests when you use group rides, and trips using the pass are not eligible for good parking rewards credit. If you need to use e-scooters only for a short while, Beam also offers a weekly pass for RM9.99, but it is limited to the area that you purchase it for such as Bangsar. For new users, the app is also offering a minimum of RM5 free credits when you complete the Beam Safety Quiz. Beam was launched in Malaysia back in 2019 and is now available in several cities including Kuala Lumpur, Ampang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Kuantan, Penang, and its latest expansion, Langkawi. The company claims that as of 2022, it has over 800,000 registered users, 65% more than what it had in the previous year. The Singapore-based startup also says that its shared e-scooters logged over 2,000,000km in total distance travelled. Its calculations estimate that this distance would have otherwise released 486 tonnes of carbon emissions if it was travelled by conventional cars. (Source: Beam Press Release)
