On paper, the 7900XTX would theoretically be one of AMD’s top-tier GPU, while also being a step above the 7900XT. This isn’t the first time that the XTX moniker has been used by AMD, as part of its GPU naming scheme; the designation first appeared with the Radeon X1000 series, and believe it or not, it is officially still part of the CPU and GPU maker’s naming convention.
At this time, details about the 7900XTX’s specifications are limited, but the same source seems to suggest that it could ship out with 24GB GDDR6 of graphics memory. That’s an additional 4GB more than what the 7900XT is rumoured to have, and 8GB more than what the current RDNA2-based Radeon 6900XT has. That being said, it is a given that the 7900XTX, should it actually be real, will be based on AMD’s upcoming RDNA3 GPU architecture, and perhaps sport the top-of-the-line Navi 31 GPU at its core. On slightly related note, there still isn’t any word regarding a 7800XT or 7700XT. AMD confirmed the existence of its RDNA3 GPU architecture back during its Financial Analyst Day 2022 in June. During the session, it said that the GPU architecture would yield a 50% improvement in both performance and uplift, over the current generation RDNA2 architecture. Further, and in keeping with AMD’s mandate, new GPUs based on it will be built around the 5nm process node, as well as feature a new advanced chiplet packaging and “Rearchitected Compute Unit”.
